Jumadabey was established in 1986 when we ventured from showing to also breeding Salukis. Our first Saluki was purchased from Brenda and Mev Connell – Ch Amadiya Seba Jumada. Our first litter sired by Ch Ivancol Saif Shomes saw three very successful bitches in the show ring with Ch Jumadabey Ashanti, Ch Jumadabey Ariel both owned by us and Ch Jumadabey Aerin – owned by J & B King.
It was Alain Campagne from France that brought Azawakh to my mums(Debra) attention during a lecture he gave after judging The Saluki Club of Victoria inc championship show in 1987 and she dreamed of owning an Azawakh since that day.
After years of emails between Mum(Debra) and Pascal Thiery a trip was undertaken in 2004 to France to Pascal and his Azawakh. They also ventured to Scotland and met Erika Braas(Tőnder) and her Azawakh. It was then the long wait began.
We skip forward to February 2010 when finally the first Azawakh landed on Australian soil – a gangly 4 month old red fawn bitch Worgeordie Endid Na'ema, Ruma to us bred in France but whelped in the UK by Mary and Ken
Snowden to help boost Azawakh numbers with the Kennel Club to have the breed officially recognized.
Then started the 2 years it took mum to have the breed officially recognized by The Australian National Kennel Club, the only officially recognized breed standard in the world submitted – The FCI standard. Then the ANKC decided a Breed Standard Extension had to be done which of course did not exist. So mum had to find someone knowledgeable on Azawakh, qualified and willing to help write one, Thank you Cristian Vantu -Azawakh breeder and FCI all breed judge. Finally in January 2012 Azawakh were officially recognized and allowed to be shown and we have not looked back, you could say the rest is history.
